copyrights
I’m so glad we had this lesson! I thought that I knew quite a bit about copyright like use quotations, give credit. And in some way I was right but before this lesson I didn’t realize how much risk I was in. While I was taking the quiz I had to laugh at myself. I kept getting questions wrong and it was never because I thought the person in question was doing something write but I always thought the person was doing something wrong. My whole view is “it’s better to be safe than sorry”. But if I hadn’t had this lesson can you imagine how much I would have held myself back. Now, I can teach to my fullest potential. Although, there are a few things I don’t understand I can say I understand a lot more. Bullying and proper social etiquette has always been a pet peeve. As a teacher you can only do so much to teach children the right things to do and the wrong things to do. It is sickening that parents don’t teach their children this or enforce it. What makes us think that all parents will teach their children how to behave properly on the internet? The fact is most won’t and that’s disturbing. It is our job as educators to teach children how to act online.

technology-positve or negitive?
I think that most aspects of communicating via technology is a great achievement. Being able to videoconference with another person half way across the world is sensational. Not only is it good for families but it can be put into good use in classrooms. I’ve actually been part of a videoconference. It was really cool; it was for my high school Spanish class. Being able to discuss the Spanish culture with students across Texas was an eye opener. Another great thing about communicating using technology is that I can still check up on my friends on facebook. Being able to post a message on someone’s wall I haven’t talked to face to face in five years means no one is ever forgotten. Being able to text my friends or family a quick message when it’s forbidden instead of calling makes life easier.
On the other hand communicating through technology can be very annoying. I feel like young adults and children that are entirely too young to have cell phones are always talking or texting. Why a third grader needs a phone I have no idea. Why most of use can’t get it through our heads that talking on the phone while driving is dangerous but even more dangerous is driving a texting! Using chats and sites like myspace and facebook are dangerous too. Using these technologies give you a fake confidence. You can make up a total different personality on any of these. You can actually pose as someone else. I’ve noticed it more in the younger generations that little girls become so much meaner and aggressive when using these site. To the point that if you are bullied at school well be ready because when u get home an log on you will be bullied on the internet too. Another example of how communicating by using technology can be a negative experience—does anyone remember the girl that committed suicide because another girls mom pretended to be a boy that the 1st girl had a crush on.
Communicating using technology can be fantastic but if it’s not monitored it can be very negative. Maybe every once in a while we should write letters to one another. Or simply meet up with someone and visit with them face to face.

MAPping
I hope I'm doing this right.
Before I read and completed all of the activites I always searched by using Google although I was aware that there were other search engines. And I normally dont trust any website therefore when I search I go to multiple websites. I will say I have never use wikipedia but all I've ever heard about it was that wikipedia is not reliable.
After doing all of the activities it's still clear to me that one can not trust sites. But I have learned that there are was of checking to makes sure that the website is legitament. Not only did I learn how to check website; I also learned how to help narrow my search. Now I know different search engine and to use quatations.
I wish that in my high school/entry-level technolgy classes would have taught me some of these techniques. These things should not be learned in college--not when we are constantly surrounded by technology and research paper. Just now as I wrap up my college career I learn how to properly use the internet.

Me and Technology
I am Macy Burleson and I'm excited to take ETEC 424. I think this class will help me think about how to use different technologies in my classroom. Already I realize that a teacher can use more than powerpoint or writing papers on word.
